La Boca

La Boca in Buenos aires, one of the poorest and oldest barrios in the city, offers some enchanting caption opportunities of old, derelict but colorful buildings.San Telmo window

Buenos Aires is a bustling city of 13 million, and you'll be hard pressed to find a moment of piece outside of the comforts of a commercial establishment such as a hotel or cafe. La Boca, home to the famous for its football stadion "La Bombonera" is the very starting point of Buenos Aires, and one of the areas where a bit of calm is possible to find as there are pedestrian streets, and no major roads. Nestled by the port, this is where the first settlers arrived and stayed if they weren't rich enough to move onwards. It is one of the poorest areas of the city, so outside a very small strip of tourist-haven called "Caminito", you'll pretty much have to watch yourself outside of mid-day hours. The area is tiny in size, but is famed for its coloured corrugated-iron buildings made from whatever materials the poor had available. The inhabitants would wait for ships to dock, and beg for a scrap of left-over paint to make their homes more inviting. While worth a quick visit, the number of tourists swarming makes it challenging to isloate the more "authentic" flavour of the area, but give it a go and enjoy the climate.
